The client, an author and close friend, approached me to design his self-published, first book’s cover. Building on the experience, two book covers followed in succession over a couple of years. The covers are unique to each book’s content and theme.

Deliverables:
• Design/creative direction
• Production
• Ongoing correspondence with client to understand and clarify tasks and deliverables
• Grasp meaning of book’s title and interpret visual solution and offer book cover options for consideration
• Research visual themes and ideas that express the book titles themes
• Present multiple cover designs. Work with client to determine final preferred cover. Apply alterations when required
• Provide print- and digital-ready artwork files for print and ebook usage
• Project management from concept and design, through entire production, cycle, to delivery

bridging culture by design

Building on my great interest in book design, I was referred by a client to design and produce a book highlighting the author’s African roots and Canadian experience – bridging geography and culture.

Deliverables:
• Design/creative direction
• Production
• Ongoing correspondence with client and editor to understand and clarify tasks and deliverables
• Grasp meaning of book’s title and interpret visual solution and offer book cover options for consideration
• Research visual themes and ideas that express the book title’s theme of ‘bridging’ cultures
• Design and format all of the book’s 136 pages based on a clean grid, ordered hierarchy of information, with a clear understanding of use of typography and readability
• Ongoing correspondence with editor to review and apply alterations throughout the book’s formatting stage
• Read, search, scan, find & replace, book’s content thoroughly
• Initiate and maintain ongoing correspondence with printer to determine production cost and ensure book’s timely delivery
• Project management from concept and design, through entire production, cycle, to delivery
